Medical advocacy and accompaniment for recent sexual assaults (within 72 hours of assault) are referred to the Hospital Response Program. For more information on the Hospital Response Program, click here.
NRSAC Volunteers provide advocacy and accompaniment when requested by a crisis caller or client of the centre. Advocacy Volunteers assist, support and educate survivors when they report to police, and appear in court.
Responsibilities
- To attend with the client to the specified setting
- Assist, support and educate client for the purpose of and during an accompaniment
- When necessary, advocate on clients behalf to ensure client rights and choices are respected
Requirements
- Must have successfully completed the Crisis Line Volunteer Training
- Maintain confidentiality as outlines in NRSAC’s Confidentiality Policy.
- Adhere to NRSAC’s policies and procedures, including the Code of Ethics.
- Act within NRSAC’s Vision/Mission Statements
Training
- Attend and complete the orientation session with the Volunteer Coordinator
