About Us:
The Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre was formed in 1976
by a handful of concerned women who had become aware of the
gap in service in the area. The centre became incorporated
in 1977 and since that time has grown and developed.
Fund-raising is a never ending job although the agency is
fortunate to currently have core government funding. Programs
have been developed and revised in order to meet the needs
of the community and to attempt to fill gaps in service throughout
the Region. Community and client evaluations have been used
in order to ensure that the services are appropriate and effectively
implemented.
Volunteers are vital to the agency's existence. Without an
incredible amount of time, caring and effort, the agency could
not exist.
Our Philosophy
The Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre recognizes that any
sexual act that takes place without the consent of all parties
is sexual assault.
The Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre recognizes that sexual
assault is an act of aggression, violence and power of one
person against another; it is not an act of sexual passion.
The Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre recognizes that the
victim of sexual assault is not responsible for the assault.
The Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre recognizes the necessity
of women being assertive, self-sufficient and self-caring.
Our Mission Statement:
The Niagara Region Sexual Assault Centre is a non-profit,
community based organization which provides counselling and
support services for women, by women, who have survived sexual
assault and incest. We ensure public awareness of sexual violence
issues. We work towards the empowerment of all women and children.
Our vision is the eradication of all forms of violence against
women, children and men.
